Brotality: “Wormsign” EP Review

Brotality is quickly becoming one of the most consistent acts in the Christian metal scene. The three-piece thrash and groove metal band from New York have been putting in the time to churn out solid singles, albums and EPs. This includes their latest release, Wormsign. The EP includes five tracks which have been slowly released as singles since last fall. It’s another excellent addition to their ever-growing catalog, as they continue to evolve and refine their sound.

Wormsign EP Review:

Tracks: 5

Length: 21:08

Release Date: March 27, 2026

Label: Independent

The EP starts with an absolute bang with “Wormsign.” They let John out of his cage and he goes ballistic on the drums to start. This 3-piece is well-known for its breakdowns and they hold nothing back with the shredding guitar, chugging bassline and driving drums. This song has a strong Mastodon vibe. It shows that these guys know how to go full strength. The lyrics of the song and attitude of the accompanying music video evokes symbolism of struggle while looking for hope.

The gritty bassline groove and accompanying shredding guitar riff starts “Animalistic.” The dueling vocals give some variety between Reece’s cleans to Bryce’s raspy screams. These guys keep getting better over time. The tempo is fierce as it gets your head banging along in the car. The song provides that typical gravelly sound that we’ve come to expect from them. The song focuses on the struggles of our earthly flesh, crying out to God for redemption.

As we hear the bass line in “Animalistic,” “Keepsake” has a sound that highlights each member’s ability to slay. John gets to show off his drumming ability throughout the song and then Bryce shreds it on the guitar, sprinkling in mindblowing riffs and high pitched arpeggios throughout the track. The song features a great blend of cleans and screams. Reece’s vocal style is unique as it’s not a complete scream, but not completely clean. The song seemed lighter than what we’ve come to expect from these three, with almost an ethereal tone at times. I love the breakdown when Reece shouts “We’ll meet in the clouds!”

We had the chance to discuss “The Body” with the guys when we met up with them at Uprise last fall. The guys were excited about the single and we can see why. It opens with simple, but technical, chugging guitar riffs. The breakdowns both vocally and musically showcase the potential that these three have. Bryce gives us this deep, technical, controlled fury guitar solo that adds to the musical depth of the song. The contrast in the vocals is a huge highlight of the song, between Reece’s soaring vocals and Bryce’s gritty growls. According to the guys, “It’s about being within your body, representing the flesh and the physical world, and yearning for light beyond that.”

We wrap up with the energetic, high-tempo “Blasphemy.” The opening is a nostalgic throwback to early Christian metal with the sound of the band plugging in and getting ready to throw down. The chord progression shows that Bryce and Reece know what they’re doing on guitar. John is slamming it down on the drums that shows that he’s no slouch behind the kit. The song seems to be a throwback to the 80s and 90s of Christian metal. Musically, it packs a punch and lyrically, they hold nothing back in this song.

“God grieves in the wake of corrupted tongues. With his blood I rebuke blind faith.”

Talking to the guys at Uprise about this song, I remember them saying they wanted to write about people who use Christian themes for profit, regardless of their actual beliefs. Reece said that he wanted to have an open conversation about why a person would do that, rather than go straight to condemnation. A great song to end the EP on.

Brotality has crafted an incredible five-song EP that has us wanting more. It has been awhile since we got a full-length as The Woods Will End You was their last full-length release back in 2022. Regardless, these three are some of the hardest working in the business and we’re excited about what’s next including a west coast tour (for the first time) with Fear Factory. If you appreciate methodical basslines, shredding guitar riffs and distorted screams, then you need to give the Wormsign EP a listen!
